Matthew has built a distinguished legal career of over 20 years in the U.S. judicial system, with extensive experience in criminal prosecution, defense litigation, oil and gas transactions, family law, and civil matters. As Managing Partner at Banister & Miller, LLPC, he has represented a broad range of clients, including individuals, corporations, and indigent defendants, across complex legal issues such as mergers and acquisitions, personal injury, family litigation, and criminal defense.
Previously, he served as Deputy Chief of the Narcotics & Gang Division at the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted and litigated over 100 jury and bench trials involving narcotics, gangs, violent crime, and constitutional law matters. His role also included serving as legal advisor to multi-agency task forces such as DEA, ATF, ICE, FBI, and Texas Rangers, assisting in undercover operations and cross-border criminal investigations.
Mr. Banister holds a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Political Science from Texas A&M University. Licensed to practice law in Texas since 2004, he has also taught extensively at law enforcement academies and professional associations on Fourth Amendment law, controlled substances, and search and seizure.
Recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI for his prosecutorial service in 2013, Mr. Banister is a seasoned litigator with deep knowledge in criminal law, civil litigation, and corporate counsel. His practice combines courtroom expertise with strategic advisory for businesses in oil and gas, real estate development, technology, and entertainment, ensuring clients receive dedicated representation and tailored legal solutions.
